Best place to check is right here, word will spread and someone may be doing something that weekend and you might get an invite.
I did the tag along thing for a while....very expensive when ya gotta pay for it up front. Then i came across this excellent site and my problem was solved.

try some of the local 4wd clubs. Surely some of them will have something organised for that week-end and they usually don't mind people coming as visitors as long as you contact there beforehand of course and have a vehicle properly equiped. Best is to check with them for the details. In addition you may learn a few things from them and find out that you like the people there and join. Then your problem is fixed for good.
