Can anyone help with ideas on what to use as a petrol engine cleaner, other than bying some very expensive products.

Do you mean just the engine bay or the inside of the motor? Engine degreaser isn't really very expensive. Any detergent will do the job though. A mate painted neat petrol on all surfaces, then hosed off... no problems. [I wouldn't start the motor in the middle of this OR put petrol on a hot motor!]. See ya Royce

Ron, Mate of
mine (diesel mechanic) swears by 'Truckwash'. He did
mine last time I was in
Townsville and it came up a treat
Cheers

I have used nearly every cleaner on the market and found the best and cheapest to be "NIFTI" from the
supermarket. Works a treat on tyres also.
