I have 16 x 7 rims and have bought 265/70/16 a/terrain tyres, is it better to have 8" rims or does 7" rims do the job, they are on a Prado 90 series
Cheers Pete

Peter,
Look on the tyre manufactures website and they usually specify what size rim for their tyres. I would say those tyres would fit without a prob if they are sitting on the stock rims as I have seen others fit that size to theirs.

Peter,
As Leroy says,
check with the manufacturer.
But from what I have seen of the tyre charts while I have been looking for new tyres in this range, 7" seems to be about minimum, and 8" is also mentioned.
Keep them on 7" if you want to pull the side walls in a bit for off road staking protection, 8" if you want to spend the money and maybe get better handling on the road with less side wall squirm.

Hi Peter
From the LCOOL (Land Cruiser Owners On Line) web site, 90 series Prado section
GXL,TX,VX models come standard with the 16x7 inch rims and 265/70R16. Steel on the GXLs.
RV models come with 16x6 inch rims and 215/80R16.
so if you have a GXL, TX or VX model then you should be fine. there is a very good discussion on tyres for Prado 90's at this site

(hope the link works - have not done this bit before)
what sort of tyres did you buy? I am looking and researching
Cheers

IMHO 7" are better. The tyre stays on the rim better, is less likely to roll off the rim when deflated and is easier to reinflate tubeless.
All 265 width tyres specify 7 to 8 inch rims.
