Any info will help. Travel time will be around end April start May.

Cheers,

Left Tibooburra in the morning after packing tent etc (probably around 9:00am) a few short photo stops on the way, short walk at Fort Grey and at the Corner by morning tea and more photo's. Lunch somehere north of Merty Merty on the old strez and into Inna around afternoon tea time. 2 kids and towing. Can't help with the other.

Leave Tibbooburra @ 9 then cut up through Stuart Nat Park via the jump up loop track. Smoko @ Olive Downs. Continue on the back track towards Fort Grey then Cameron's Cnr for lunch. Turn off @ Bollards Lagoon on the Bore track. Arrive Innamincka about 4.30 to 5.
This drive is more scenic than the main rd with alot less dust & traffic. There is a small fee for the use of the Private rd section on the Bore track. We took regular breaks but you do need to keep moving to do it in a day. If you are a nature lover who likes to walk & explore take 2.
Cheers Craig.............

I definitley recommend taking the bore track it is a much more interesting drive.

See Bore Track Trek Notes

It is worth the 10 bucks.

Marc,
I did that trip in reverse 18 mths ago & I would suggest 1 day for each of those legs, which allows you to take it pretty easy and enjoy the trip.
Cheers,
Stu

Fair enough too Croozer and allow some time to be spent too around the waterholes at Innamincka.

Had some guys in a green Nissan who did Sydney to Camerons Corner in 13 hours overtake us at one stage heading west. The were bargaining on Leigh Creek in another five hours. They didn't have the weight I was carrying fortunately. Too quick to enjoy your trip.

Marc,

Check out Travelmate.com.au and you can see how far, how long it will take, shortest route, quickest route etc between two towns.

Leroy it is a good site I grant you, B U T it gives some very unreliable information for outback travel.

Try Birdsville to Oodnadatta for one. Perhaps I chose an unrealistic trip but the suggestion is 1,842 kms averaging nearly 70 kmh. Some may be able to average that on good well graded roads in just over a day, but I wouldn't rely on completing it. It would be nicer doing the desert trip over 4-5 days.

John,

It's a guide only. Variables such as weather, road conditions etc are obviously unable to be taken into consideration but is usually worth a look. Probably more reliable for blacktop touring.

Just for a change, last year(June) we did that trip via Warri Gate, Santos, Epsilon, and the Dig Tree. Roads were in pretty good nick apart from a few washaways. Going out to the Dig Tree was a short detour, but we were still in Innamincka before sunset, having left Tib at 9.00am. Coming in from that direstion would also give you the oppportunity to camp at Cullyamurra without going into Innamincka.

In Oct 03 we left Innmincka at abut 9am and travelled via the Bore Trak to Camerons then on to Tib for afternoon tea. We had bit of look around the shop before leaving.

On the way down to Broken Hill (home) we did a little bit of exploring which cost us about 1.5hrs and arrived home just after dark.

We had two families a Cruiser and a Patrol towing a trailer.

We did not hurry until we got onto the Silver City Highway and then it was going home time so we drove pretty close to the posted limits all the way.

Locals here regularly do the HIll to Innamincka in a day. But that is when we are travelling not sight seeing. All that has been suggested above is pretty right. It can comfortably be done i a day but you could spend maybe 5 days to do the same trip and not feel like you had wasted the time.

Happy travelling
Duncs
