I would like to rent a 4WD camping car for 7 weeks. (From
Cairns to
Melbourne.) I found a company Aussie Trax in
Hervey Bay 4655 they look good to me. Does anybody know any alternatives or is Aussie Trax a good choice. I know all about Brits,Hertz and the other bushcampers, but in my opinion they are not very
well equipped.
Thanks Rainer

Hi
Cant offer you any advice on Aussie Trax but I will say that whoever you hire a vehicle from ask lots of questions and
check all the clauses.
Hertz, Avis etc. never used to allow you to take a 4WD off sealed roads. Many other companies also do not let you take the vehicles off the mainland to
places like Fraser Island. Also
check carefully the insurance terms and conditions, again many offer no cover off sealed roads; offer limited cover for 2 vehicle accidents; others cover you for any 2 vehicle accident but not for single vehicle accidents; and almost all have very high insurance excess payments.
Just be careful
Steve

Dear Rainer,
Not quite the most convenient stretch of highway for us and Im not sure of whether you need camper you can live in - without having to pitch a tent for your gear etc, but if you look up www.luxurycampers.com you may find exactly what you want. I have talked to a lot of 4WD renters(most found the HJ75s pretty cramped and uncomfortable) and had a good look at their vehicles (usually sorting out flat batteries and explaining why their fridges didnt work)before I built our wagon. You can email us from this site for more info. Hope you get what looking for.
Cheers,
Greg Jones
