I will be returning to Oz in three months, planning to buy a used Landcruiser. Trouble is, there are so many model variations and I can hardly tell my 60s 70s 75s etc, apart. I just know I want a diesel wagon!
Can anyone recommend a Toyota reference manual or compendium of road tests covering models between about 1985-92? I have searched the web without success.
Many thanks in advance, John

John,if u are looking for a plain workhorse the personnel carrier 75 series is the vehicle,on the early models they have a very reliable 4.2L diesel
the 2H is a really tough workhorse,if u are looking for something with a bit more comfort,on the period that u mentioned is two diferent models of station wagons.
The 60 series till late 88,followed by the 80 series.
There is a substantial diference between the two,
the 80 series being the more comfy and advanced due to the coil suspension and complete body change.
let me know if u need any more info

Thanks Joe,
The 8o series sounds like the way to go if I can find one for the right money, otherwise it will be a 60 series. I would still like to see some of the road tests with performance figures and to get some idea of what the specs are for different models such as GX, GLX, etc. Know of any good books?
Many thanks for your response,
John

The current Overlander mag (Ithink it is this months) has an article on what to lookout for on 80 series
cruisers... some of the things I recall from having a quick look at a newsagency was:
Look out for cracked pillars on vehicles submitted to off road, lookout for front axles (this is a common problem even on 100 series)
lookout for bigends the list goes on.
Get a GQ GU 4.2 L Patrol, much stronger....
