From Parks Vic

Storm Closures - 2 Feb 2005

Parks Victoria has urges the public to stay away from rivers, creeks and waterways due to risks from flooding which have been created by the recent heavy rain fall.

Many of Victoria’s rivers, creeks and waterways are at very high levels and potentially dangerous. The Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers run into Port Phillip Bay and water levels of these waterways are influenced by tidal movements.

Several of Melbourne’s rivers have flooded and torrents of water are creating dangerous conditions for people to be around. We are urging people visiting our parks throughout the State to stay away from rivers and streams for the next few days.

Visitors to parks are urged to be cautious particularly around trees, which may have been damaged or weakened by the storm activity.

For more information, contact the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 13 1963.
