Which shape (round or rectangular) gives better beam projection? I notice most of the top end lights are round, would I be correct in assuming this is beacuse they give a better beam?

Depends what type of beam you are after, but I believe that rounds have a better beam.

Round IMO. The lens is usually parabolic with the filament located at the focal point. Rectangular is parabolic with bits cut off, hence you will not get as good a beam as with round.

Well you guys are not helping me sell my hella 100's in the trader section(just a plug to balance out the bad press). They are square and working on my truck and fine by my standards.Don't need them due to headlight upgrade kit.
