Hi. Looking for a landcruiser to take around Oz.I am currently looking at a 4.5 litre petrol/gas troopy and a factory turbo diesel sahara (1987 auto). Just wondering if there is anything I should know about these 4wds.Not sure if the auto is appropriate, or gas/petrol for that matter.Maybe towing trailer. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Diesel would be my choice. Quite a few outback communities don't sell petrol, and even more don't sell LPG.

Other than that, whichever you choose get it thoroughly checked out. 1987 is getting old, but those 60 series were built tough.

Have fun
John

Another question for those who believe they LCs outdo the Patrols - do landcruisers do a diesel 8 cyclinder? I think they may only be petrol. Couldn't find them on the toyota site.

No, the poor Patrol is the 3 ltr turbo deisel really shouldn't be towing the heavy Bushtracker over mountains and real hard going stuff (pulls it a breeze on normal tracks), so my husband is dreaming of F250s and V8 Cruisers. We have some fiercely protective LC owners here - so thought they might know. The fight seems to be between LCs & Nissans - the Ford owners are very polite.

landcruiser do an intercooled td 4.2 or 4.4?l v8 petrol. Nissan also do an intercooled 4.2d as well as the 3.0 litre. I n petrol they do the 4.8
anything with a petrol would be a dissapointment to you economywise after the 3.0l with some astonishing consumption figure achievable both t and n while heavy towing. We have an f350 at work and it is ok but they dont really have the get up and go you might expect (still pretty good) and a very narrow powerband as soon as they hit the powerband they are out of revs almost and changing gears is a major chore. Maybe autos are better

Thanks Davoe - Yes, found the specificaitons for Petrol v8 but disappointed no diesel v8. We prefer diesel too. The Patrol is thirsty pulling the heavy caravan. Did you get your new job? Motherhen

M H dunno about the job yet. I thought I was sposed to hear last week but apparantly it is this week sounded promising though. I organised housemate on the weekend so it is all in readyness for me to live out on camp. Thre camp which is nearly finished is really nicely situated in the bush on a hill overlooking saltlakes - grand vista well goldfields style anyway

no contest the 12ht in the sahara would be fsantastic but you are talking 2 completly different vehicles (condition not withstanding) so you gotta figure out what will suit you best.
Btw I know where you can get a great deal on a landcruiser camper
