Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with having the front shackles reversed on a leaf sprung 4x4. The guys that perform the job say it will improve ride quality. Any experience with the conversion, or theories on why not to do it would be appreciated. I'm considering the job for an otherwise stock standard Toyota HJ47 troopy.

Have driven a 60 with shackles reversed, not worth the money in my opinion, better to buy decent shocks and maybe springs if it's a bit tired. If you go for the reversal, check that your front driveshaft is not going to run out of travel on compression, as with reversed shackles the diff moves backwards on compression rather than forwards.

Reversal makes a big difference to ride quality in a 4_ series, and makes them drive straighter on the road under accellaration, and braking.

Its easy to do, I machine a bush like a hilux and fit it in the chassis, and use 75 series shackles, and on the last 40 I did I used 60 series springs all around, so i could fit bigger wheels by moving the diff forward on the already more forward centre bolts of the 60 springs.

late 4- series, 75 series, and 60 series use the same shackle bushes.

my last 40

Thanks GO_OFFROAD. That's very helpfull. Did you do any other mods on your 40 to acheive that level of articulation.
