We are planning to travel to SA and have heard that Ngarkat NP
is a must for every 4WD owner. Has anyone been there and could give us some feedback? Thanks

Stefan, I have travelled the track from Keith to Lameroo through the Ngarkat NP. The track is quite difficult to find with limited road signs. Buy an RAA map for $1.50. This track is very isolated with low mallee scrub and limited camping. There is also the Centre track and Border Track, the latter running along the SA/VIC border adjacent to Big Desert NP in Victoria. I have not been down these tracks but spoke to a fellow traveller just a few days ago and he reckoned it was pretty good with a few big dunes to cross. There is quite a bit of sand driving. Hope this helps. Cheers, Willie

We did the bordertrack nearly 12 months ago. It's a great short track heading from north to south. Whilst the NP rangers recommend the "centre track" the border track is dug up. It has some very deep bog holes with detours around. Please avoid the bog holes. A couple of steep sand dunes that are interesting when the sand is very soft. The track is not suitable for 'soft roaders' or low ground clearance. it is certainlyworth the traverse.
