Hi Stevo,
I used to have a 60 series L'Cruiser that was dual fuel and I installed an electric fuel pump in line with the mechanical pump. This system worked very well when cold starting as I did not have to keep cranking the engine to fill the carby.

I have an electric fuel pump in my camper that pumps from the aux tank to the main. It sits idle for months at a time and still works ok when required

You might be buggering up your mechanical pumps because you may be running them dry and the diphragm cracks and becomes unserviceable.
With the electric pump in series and in line before the mechanical pump, the mechanical pump is always full of fuel.

Forgot th mention. Your needle valve in the carby must be in good condition as engines rearly fart hard if they get a mixture of LPG & Petrol
