With the recent plethora of anti 4WD comment in the media I thought it was about time someone actually did something . . . so . . .
My mind has been aglow with whirling transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapour of invention . . . and I've got a plan . . .
WE'LL WORK UP A NUMBER 6 ON THEM!!!!!!!!!

I am mightily impressed! Despite years of experience writing drivel... even I would have struggled to produce such an elegant (but totally meaningless) phrase :) May I borrow the copyright - I would _love_ to reuse it? We should meet up for a beer :)
On a more serious note:
One of the best ways to overcome this irrationality regarding 4WDs is for people to write a letter (not an e-mail or a fax) to their state and federal MPs. It's important these letters come from individuals and are in their own words. ie. don't use a letter format supplied by a 4WD club or from a website. Similarly they should be to your own MPs and MPs for areas you 4WD in. It doesn't matter if you think your writing abilities are not exactly perfect - the MP knows that behind each letter are votes!
The reason the above is a powerful tactic is that MPs don't receive a lot of letters from constituents on any _one_ subject and for each letter they do receive they know someone felt strongly enough to go to the trouble of writing a letter - BUT they also know that for each letter there are 100 (1000??) other constituents who feel exactly the same as the letter writer but won't bother to write. In general, if an MP receives a dozen or two letters on one subject he will take _serious_ notice of that matter.
The above doesn't work if the MP suddenly receives a batch of letters all with the same style or format - then he knows some group is mounting a letter writing campaign and will probably ignore them - hence it's important _individuals_ write to their chosen MPs in their own words.

Mike,
My mind has been raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought, cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives of what to do about Harold Scruby and his compatriots.
"May I borrow the copyright - I would _love_ to reuse it?" - I don't own the copyright, Mel Brooks does. Do yourself a favour and buy the DVD of "Blazing Saddles", after numerous viewings over the years I still manage to get a giggle out of it!
"We should meet up for a beer" - always happy to meet a fellow traveller for a beer, especially if they are also a fellow sesquipedalian.
