hi guys i just bought a 98 lux 3lt 5l mtr ute with 275000 on it i got it a month ago and have noticed the tailgate is getting black carbon on it i was thinking maybe injectors this is all i could come up with the missus drives a 99 model dual cab with 220000 on it no problems thank you garry

Get someone to follow you and take note if you are blowing smoke. You make be over fueling.
Check for thich black smoke through the range, particularly down low(rev's).
If the smoke is blue you may be letting oil past the oil rings, or from a leaking head gasket or past valve stem seams.
My guess without knowing much more is simply injectors. Remove them and get them cleaned properly by an injector specialist.

thats what i ask she even suggested yesterday that in 12 mths time we trade my lux in and get one of the model sr5 for her and i have her dual cab
