Has anyone travelled the
Great Central Road recently – are conditions ok. We plan to leave Uluru in the second week of October and head for
Leonora. Is it worth carrying an additional spare tyre (ie a second spare) on this road?

The GCR is generally stable during the dry season - pls read our road conditions report under the Resources heading for detailed and accurate information on conditions. As for 2nd spares, not at all necessary - this trip is a walk in the park for a 4WD, but bad luck can always happen. If you have the room to take a 2nd spare then take it - they are always handy, but most people can't afford the extra space. This is NOT a hard trip at all in relation to the other
treks listed on this site. For more details - please read our Trip Journal (under the
Treks heading) as we were along there just 2 mths ago.
