Hi

Has anyone had dealings with TCIS. I'm looking to insure the truck and toys (ie accessories and camping gear) for a 3 month trip starting in April. It looks like it's going to cost just over $1000 to cover it all. I can't put the gear on the home contents as we will have no home and any contents left will be in a few big plastic boxed under my girlfriends mums house and covered by her policy!!
Does this seem like a fair price to cover it all, the truck is worth 10k without accessories and approx. 13k with?
Does anyone else know of another company that will do a policy like TCIS that will cover modifications/accessories & offroad travel & camping gear.

Thanks for any advice you are able to give

G'day bloke,

Mate, I've got my insurance thru TCIS and my Patrol and it's contents (see the list on my rig details page....it's about $40K for the patrol and $24K for the bits and pieces), costs me $55- per month. That has just been renewed and has come down from $58.06 per month.

So, I reckon $1000- is a bit over the odds. However, there are a lot of factors to be considered. I am an old fart (50 in a couple of weeks), I have a 60% no claim bonus thingo, there are no other drivers (SWMBO loves being a passenger SO MUCH that she has never got around to learning to drive).

I'm happy with my policy, but I wouldn't be if i had to pay a grand.

Good luck

Roachie

Hi Roachie,
This is quite interesting as we got a quote from TCIS for our 2.8 Patrol, with not as many mods as yours, to insure it completely for $40,000 we got quoted $792 with NO monthly payment option. This is through a company called Unique Car Underwriter,. Do you know who the underwriter on your policy is? We did the quote via online and they didn't ask us if we were members of a 4WD club, did they ask you? We have had no claims, both of us who drive are over 35 rating 1 for life etc. We didn't think the quote was too bad, as RACQ quoted $45/month and would only insure us for $22,000 total, so the extra $20/month would have been worth it, unfortunately we just couldn't come up with the $800 in one lump sum at the moment. Monthly payments suit us better. Have you got the camper insured with them also and if you don't mind me asking what did they charge for this?
Cheers,
Nino & Kerry

Just an add on ... just looked at our quotes again, the car as mentioned was $792 and the camper trailer which is a Heards insured for $7000 and all the gear/fridge/slide out kitchen etc., $5000 and they quoted $206 for the camper and $191 for the equipment. So add it all up, our quote totals just under $1200 .... ouch. So I guess you just have to weight up the risk .... insure cheap and don't get the full cover you want, or insure expensive and (fingers crossed) the insurance company comes through with the dosh when/if you claim. We still haven't made a decision, but certainly won't be using RACQ but if anyone else has any suggestions on other companies, we'd be glad to hear of them as well.

Thanks
Nino & Kerry

G'day Nino & Kerry
Mine is underwritten by Allianz & is $661.92 p/a or $55.16 per month. I had to be a member of a 4wd club to get my insurance thru TCIS in the 1st place.

Our Ultimate is insured for about $20K and costs $12- p/f/n .

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I have never dealt with an insurer for my camping gear. However I have read that they depreciate your camping gear by about 90% in its first year. Something to look into anyway.

Hi Rihearn.
I have insured my camper trailer with TCIS & my pajero with NRMA.
NRMA inspected the modifications/accessories & covered them for agreed value.
Give them a try.
Regards.

Hi,

I also have my rig (94 GQII TI Petrol) insured with NRMA for agreed value of $25K total cover including any extras at Sydney Eastern Subs address. (I have no bullbar, winch, lights) just towbar, sidesteps, tint. The cost for 12 months is $790 I am 32yo, wrote off my 3 month old GSX-R1000 Feb 04, and still have 60% no claim for life.

They coughed up for my bike in 8 days of making the claim, and although others have reported problems getting claims paid, my experience with them was excellent, and surprising.
The ONLY downside to insuring with them ( and prob most major insurers) is that the policy excludes cover on any road that is not a gazetted road, so if it isn't on an official map = no cover. I guess it depends on what sort of travel you do.

Just the other day I approached TCIS for a quote on my insurance for 3.0L 2003 GU patrol. With accessories it is valued at 55K (45K for the truck). They quoted me $2280 (that is with a 60% no claim). My current insurance is with AAMI and it is $890. I told them that their quote was significantly higher than than AAMI and they are looking into it with the underwriter. If that is going to be the cost, I will be looking around for another insurer to, so if you hear of anyone I would be interested to know who it is.
