G,day
Has anyone, or is it possible to remove the rear sliding windows on a LWB GQ Patrol, and replace with 1 piece non sliding ones? Do they make them, or can they be made up? I have discovered rust starting in the runners, and needs to be looked at soon, and i dont really need sliding windows as i have permanently removed the 3rd row seats.

Thanks Paul..

G'day Paul, I think Truckster had a fix on his web site some time ago. It was something to do with remove/replace these windows.

I see you picked up the camper, I get mine in about 8-9 weeks, its a Coota Camper.

Cheers for now Tony.

That could well be on the cards. The wife is up in Weipa at the moment, why don't you come out to the farm weekend after this one and set it up for a night. We will have that New Year drink.

G'day Paul,

Mate, I used to have a GQ (now a GU) and I kinda miss the sliding windows at times if for no other reason but to let the hot air out as you drive.

Don't be in a hurry to replace the sliders, I know no help on the question!

Kind regards

Hi Paul,

I know that the sliding window frames can be replaced, but not sure if that is all that rusts, it may well be the rear 1/4 panel rusting away and needing repair too, but definatley the frames can be replaced.

I have a 94GQ II Ti, and on the drivers side of the rear section it has no sliding window, thus it is 1 piece of glass and has a full rubber seal similar to that of a windscreen or rear window in a Hiace Van.

The other side is still a sliding window, and fortunatley both sides of mine are immaculate, never been rusty as garaged all life. I bought the car this way, and suspect at some stage the glass must have been broken or something as I don't believe Nissan sold them like this.

If you want a pic let me know and I will email one for you.
Cheers,
Wayne

Hi Paul,

I have owned 2 GQ Patrols but never had the rust problem. I read in on of the many 4wd mags that this is one of the problems with GQ's and have even seen several with the original windows removed but have no idea about how you would go about it. Maybe contact a panel beater. They may be able to advise or contact Markus at ARB in Fyshwick...he may be able to give you a heads up. He owns a GQ

Hi Paul,
Alot of GQ's rust there mine included, you can buy new window frames from nissan, have quite a few mates do theirs and on none of them did the rust go further than the frame itself. From memory they were $160 @, had a panel beater install mine plus a few other things so couldn't advise you on individual instalation costs.
You will find the sliding windows came on the 7 seater models only, the 5 seaters had the solid windows.

Hi Pezza,

I have a solid window on drivers side and slider on passenger side, mine is factory 7 seater, however it is the Ti model with dual air and the little fridge cooler box in the rear where the 6&7th seats are on the drivers side, do you know if this windo configuration is due to having the cooler box, or has it been changed by previous owner?

Cheers,
Wayne

G'day S.H.
Sorry mate, can't help you with that one, though I doubt very much if nissan released them like that, methinks your "previous owner" theory is most likely.
