Hi,
My sister is leaving in the next week to head off from Murwillumbah (northern nsw) to Mt Isa and up to Darwin.
Are these roads ok for travelling, do they close due to flooding etc very often?
I think the roads would be the Barkly Hwy, and Stuart Hwy. (sound right?)

Cheers

(she wants some reasurrance before she leaves)

They are currently OK, but it is the wet season, things can change.

Thanks David,
I finished installing the 3 way into the back of the van.
I ended up visiting our local Bunnings (seems like its the one stop shop) and picked up some adjustable feet, which I attached to the cupboard I have the fridge sitting on. Now to level it up you just have to unscrew them or whatever. I used a ratchet strap attached to the back wall with a couple of blocks at the back to stop the fridge from going to far back (to keep the airflow) so you just ratchet it up until its nice and secure.
It is still sitting on about 3-4c so its not bad. The foil idea i am still experimenting with. Now I am going to grab some of those insulated carry bags that coles etc are pushing and make up a bit of a cover for it for when we are driving to try and keep some of the heat out of it.

Thanks for the info too.

Cheers

Click on the blue button above On the Road and then go to Road Conditions. That should give you a fair idea of what the roads are like at the moment.

Hi Willem,
Did that already. Could only find info on the Barkley Hwy.
On the NT part couldnt find any mention of the main Hwy.

Thanks for the info.

The route you describe is ALL bitumen and not generally effected by rain unless there has been torential storms (which there hasn't) and flooding, which has closed off the MT Isa section a few times in recent years. The wet is almost over and you generally find the only rain is around Darwin and the Stuart Hwy from Katherine isn't usually effected by rain.

Get onto http://www.roadreport.nt.gov.au/ to check.
