You could try Peter James at Lara Electronics, really nice guy to deal with and knows his stuff. Do a yellow pages search to find the contact number

Hire and fitting of a set and antenna won't be cheap. It may be worth considering buying a secondhand unit?
I happen to know this chap has (had?) one for sale at the moment:

If you buy it tell him I sent you 'cause he's a bit grumpy with me at the moment :)

You can try: Jim's 4WD Radio Sales and Hire
Gold Coast Australia or try
Desert Access 4WD Equipement Hire but they are located in
Adelaide.
They are the only two I know of, I am sure either can ship the equipment to you.
Good luck.

Hi Peter
Give
John Cullen a call at Time Plus, he has several units for hire, they come in a case, attach leads to battery, plug in wire antenna and transmit, no need to install in vehicle

Peter - would a satellite phone do you? It's a hell of a lot of mucking around for an HF..... when you could rent a sat phone for as long as you'd need and not stuff up the car by fiting/ripping out an HF installation.
Unless you need to talk to the RFDS or someone else you know on HF......

Don't know if this will help or not. If you are coming through
Broken Hill there is a guy in town who hires them out. Might save you a few bucks by hireing for less time.
Anyway the place is Muscat Auto Repairs. 90 Bromide St
Broken Hill. Phone number is 08 8088 1242. He is there from about 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
Not sure what he charges but can't hurt to ask.
