We've finally got our
HF radio up and running for our kimberly trip in April. We're interested to know of anyone else who is a member of VKS 737 who would like to have a chat on the hf. We need to practice using and talking on the radio.

Bru - as
well as private contacts, if you are interested ..............
This is a quiet time of the year for all VKS bases - the sked operators would be happy to take any contacts for any purpose during sked times (I'm an operator -
Adelaide base - one or two nights a week) - just call in for a radio
check, any base any time. Advise that you are new and would like the practice - no problems - you can get
feedback on your signal quality - even try other frequencies (5455khz is used most skeds as a second channel - 8022khz is the main). If you ran around all bases over a week or so you'd get a good idea on routines.Whatever. The main thing is you want to be a user - not just an owner - you might really need that HF one day !

Thanks for the info. Yes we did talk to
Adelaide and StMarys on Sunday night. I just didn't know if we could keep calling them when we are just sitting in our driveway playing. The operators were very nice. They made you feel very comfortable even though we were very nervous. Loads of fun. Can't wait to get on the road in 6 weeks.

Whiskey 622 here........
I don't often have the radio on except when on a trip, but if we can sort out a pre-arranged time, I would be happy to go for a short drive (need to be out of town away from power lines etc).
Cheers and good luck.......BTW a good idea is to listen on the skeds and talk to the operator/s at various base stations; they usually aren't too busy at this time of year and you could practice on them.
