YEARS AGO I LIVED AT BOWEN IN N.Q AND A LOCAL TOOK ME TO CAPE UPSTART TO GO FISHING AND MUD CRABING THE PLACE WAS GREAT, I WENT BACK A YEAR OR TWO LATER AND FOUND THE TRACK IN WAS CLOSED AND THE ONLY WAY IN WAS BY MOTOR BIKE UNDER THE FENCE OR BY DINGHY WHICH NEARLY KILLED MYSELF MY FRIEND AND ARE TWO DOGS. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AGAIN.

THANKS

From what I have read you can only get in by boat. Can say a nice place though, stopped there a couple of times sailing up the coast.
Give Parks and Wildlife a call, or try there web site www.epa.qld.gov.au
Cheers Bruce

Wanted to visit last Nov, but a local said the park was inaccessable because yanks had bought land in front of the park, and closed the road to the public.

That was their story anyway.

Access to Cape Upstart is by boat only. The locals use the Molongle creek boat ramp which has a mooring pontoon and a channel dredged out into the bay so you can get in and out from half tide up. There is a small caravan park there as well. Access is via sealed road about half k south of Gumlu. The other alternative is from Groper Creek but this is further away.

Sorry to say the road into Cape Upstart Station which I have no doubt you refer to is now closed due to thoughtless actions of bastard thieves etc.

There is now no way for the public to access the beautiful beach south of Cape Upstart and Cape Creek. The only access to Cape Upstart itself is via the northern side which ia a haven for Burdekin cane farmers families. Boat access only I am afraid.

As a child I spent many weekends on the beautiful beach south of the Cape, but alas it is no longer possible to get there.

The owners of CU station tried many schemes to allow access to respectable people but they all failed due to the wanker element in our society.
