Both of these tents fold up into BIG packages. The OzTent is 2 metres long or more, and the Southern Cross (9x9) folds up to a square shape about a metre and a bit on each side.

Both are heavy-ish to throw up on a tall roof rack.
Both are sturdy, well made tents and will alst for years.
Both take little time to erect.

Maybe it will come down to how you want to pack your roofrack. At least you can usually stick the S/C in the boot area - unlike the OzTent (unless you have all the seats folded down and waste space by putting it in diagonally).

Spot on Chrispy. I use a S/C and stacks in the camper flat . the son uses a Oz tent and still sticks out the side of the trailer by about a foot.
However both easy and quick to setup

Easy.

SC.

They aren't used extenstively by touring Companies for No reason.

The OzTent ISN'T bad , by all reports they are good (I know a couple of people with them) , but , I also know of a couple that got damaged in a moderate wind.

Southern Cross Trekker, we've had ours since 1989 and it will probably be handed down to our grandkids (a long long time to go we hope :-)

Oztent is brilliant and put up in half the time of s/crss. Worth thinking about when putting up in the dark.

Before we got our EezyAwn rooftop tent, we took our Southern Cross 9x9 to Fraser Island with a mate and his wife who had an OzTent. It was very windy on the coast one night, and the S/C well outperformed the OzTent in the stability stakes. The only reason the OzTent stayed where it was, was because there was someone in it holding it down. We put it down to the large upright and very flat sides that just didn't handle the wind as well as the pyramid style tent. Otherwise, there was probably more room in the S/C as we had the side-pole kit.
