Gday everyone,i think i might have made a very stupid mistake here,i was removing my gearbox from my hilux today, got everything off and it is just sitting in place, however i realised that the engine has been left in gear......will this stop me being able to remove the g/box as the engine is still engaged with it? if this is the case is there an easier way to fix it rather than having to put it all back together?

Pembo,

I can't imagine that you have got this far without a workshop manual, or at least a maintenance guide.

Just look at how the shaft splines connect through the clutch and that will answer the question.

No, being in gear won't make any difference.

I can undestand leaving the gearbox in gear, which wouldn't matter zip anyway, but I didn't know Hilux engines had gears ! (apart from a timing gear).

Just rip it out mate, she'll be apples.

Also check see if you have water in the radiator or air in the tyres, both of these will also be problems for you, also check if the radio is on, that can also affect the gearbox removal in the same way as the engine being in gear.
