Kids have a DVD player and want to run it off standard 4x4 battery (the car) when no other power source available
How long could I run it (coservatively)?

What type of DVD player? Is it a 240v domestic type or a portable one? What does the manual say about power consumption? Watts? How big is your car battery? Is the car diesel or petrol? Are you running anything else? Lights? Fridge?
Is the screen built into the player or are you using a seperate one?

3.5L Petrol Jackaroo
Not running anything else at the same time
Portable all in one 7" laptop from Dick Smith
Connects via cig lighters
Kids have lost the $#%$# book so I don't know what it draws
Has a rechargable battery whih lasts about 1.25 hours
Can be charged from 240V or 12V car as we drive

Cheers

Should go all night without flattening your battery... I looked them up on their site but it didn't have any current draw.... Can't imagine it being much more than 1amp @ 12vdc... I might be wrong, but others will comment.

The battery in your Jack, what at least a 500CCA?? Probally would be, the petrol Jack wouldn't take tooooo much to start. I don't think you'd have a problem at all.

you have no problems running this off the 12v system of your vehicle - don't have it connected when starting just in case it spikes - you never know and i'm not sure just how good the components are inside the dvd. rgds
Slow down and relax......

Hello ..

I have one from Aldi i have an inverter in the car and just run it off that while driving and if i need the laptop i use the 12 volt plug for the DVD . If I know we will be at one place say over night I charge the battery for the dvd on the inverter and just use that when we stop and have never had any problems...

If its a concern (which it probably shouldn't be) , get a cheapo power pack from Supercheap for about $30.
