Following on from Ruth's post (21436). I have a Forrester and will be travelling Brisbane to Lawn Hill then Birdsville before returning home. I have Bridgestone HT's at the moment but intend to change to AT for the trip. Am open to suggestions for other brands.

What is the suggested pressure for these roads?
We have previously gone Bris Cooktown Laura Lakefield NP Chillagoe Hughenden Charville on HT's and not dropped pressure.

There will be just 2 of us with not a lot of camping gear.

SDC,
Have a close look at the construction of the tyre, looking for a LT construction rather than a P construction. Do a GOOGLE search. Many before you have taken Forrester's into these areas so lots of experience to be found

I don't know much about the Forrester. I have had good service from my Toyo OPATS and will buy them again. They seem pretty tough but not much grip in mud.
Pressure??? I don't know about the forrester. I run 28 psi in the rough on my Rangie. Basically your tyres should look a little flat, ie bulging at the sidewall a bit more than you are comfortable with is a good desciption.

You don't say how old the car is - if it has 15" or 16" wheels.
If it is a recent model with 16" wheels tyres are a bit harder to obtain than the 15" wheels. The OE 16" H/T tyres are rubbish. I have just fitted a set of Toyo OPAT tyres - previously I had Bridgestone A/T.

As for pressure I run 30psi all the time.
