Friend has a 1997(?) TD4 auto Discovery towing a 17' pop top caravan and on the highway sitting generally on 90km/h, gets 20 to 24l/100k. He is so fed up with the poor economy he is thinking of selling it. No, not the van , the discovery!
To me it doesn't sound right. I thought they are more economical than that.
Now, he has traded up from a V8 falcon wagon, and is not known for being light footed, so I am wondering if it is more driving style than the car?

Some suggestions and confirmation of fuel figures may just help, so any help appreciated.

Yes should be ALOT better my TD5 gets on average 12l/100km towing so the TD4 should be a bit better than mine, anyway go HERE these guys will know it's free to be a member and a great bunch of guys too, albeit a bit one eyed about Landys.

Thanks,

looks interesting. My friend is an old old codger :-) and not too computer friendly so will see what I can find for him.

Hi - You are correct - things do not sound right - are you sure the disco is a diesel and not a V8. Oh by the way the TD4 is a Freelander engine - a 97 Diesel Disco is a TDI 300.

I have a V8 Disco and it gets about 20-24l/100km towing a car float with a jaguar on the trailer at about 100kph.

If the disco is a TDI and is getting 20-24l/100km there is definitely something wrong the tuning and it should be looked at. I would have thought 15l/100 should have been more reasonable with 20l/km being the worst for a leadfoot or in steep hilly terrain.

I'm a lead foot and my TD5 gets 13 when i'm into her towing a 1300kg camper, well so the family reckons anyway.

Slow down Barry, what are trying to do kill us, aaahhh sounds from passenger seats;-)
