I have a '93 model GQ Patrol. On trips over half an hour in length i hear a buzzing sound in the fuel tank when i stop. If i release the fuel cap and let the pressure out, the buzzing stops. But if is a hot day, the buzzing starts up again.
Does anyone one think this is a problem that will eventually lead to something breaking down, or is it OK to not worry about it?

Sounds like expansion & venting is slightly blocked, or the pet blowfly is letting you know he just wants some rest & fresh air.....

my gq patrol does that some times, i think it is the fuel pump running as it de-preasurises the fuel system as it does keep doing it for long lafter you stop. but to me it sounds like the electric fuel pump..

Now if it was a Roaring sound, that could be normal as all the old people on this site would know, Esso fuel..

LOL!
I remember those bumper stickers that said "Put a tiger in your tank" in various languages and the tiger tails that you could hang off your fuel cap.
Damn!!! I must be an oldie. :-(

Gee, i'd forgotten about those tails,, and you have jogged my memory, the servo's would give the kids an
orange and black tiger oney ring. Gee the old petrol adds were great, the
shell and bp and esso. Now at 48yo i was only a little guy when all that was around. Michael

It is only the pressure equalising in the tank.
If you remove, then replace the cap, the noise stops.
Many GQs make the noise......most noticeable when the tank is near empty.
The GQ tank venting system is not just "open to atmosphere". It's to keep the water/dirt out, and vents sometimes slower than the fuel is being used.
To make a long story short........Nothing to worry about.
