this is exactly the reason I prefer manual hubs and that annoying second gear stick...
I don't trust buttons/switches.

The GLS has that annoying second gear stick! No buttons or switches for engaging hubs or differentials. I'd love to get more information on what happened though!

Why did it scare you? I have often put the surf into 4wd at 90km/hr on purpose if the gravel is a little slippery. If I try over 100km/hr it just ding dongs at me until I drop the speed off. It engaged 4wd smooth and effortessly even at speed, I wouldnt have thought you'd notice apart from the light on the dash and possible heavy steering. Wierd how it would go in automatically though, you sure you didn't bump the button with you knee or somthing??

I'd be more worried if it fell out of 4 wheel drive but it does sound strange. Maybe you need one of these.

maby just a electrical fault i would get it looked at if it keep's doing it.

Good thing it didn't jump into Low then you'd see the transfer case do the 1/4 mile in 10 flat. Oh the hilarity!

the triton i used to own done that then would disengage after a bit then it started to happen more and more and i couldnt get the hubs to unlock tried everything even this forum drove around for a bit till i decided to go get it looked at $400 later it was fixed a few switches and valves i think from memory plus the extra fuel that with more and more crap happening to it i sold it in saying that i loved it just bought a lemon wanted another but couldnt afford a new one bummer.
