There was mention of a Codan NGT on eBay the other day. There is another one listed

This one is a base station with antenna mast and power supply. Does anyone know what a setup like that would cost new? I imagine the unit could be used as a mobile as well, and you'd sell the mast and power supply.

Bob, my understanding is that a complete NGT setup is around $4k including an autotune. Add $1200 for a new aerial and you're looking at a starting bid of $3200 for the unit. Of course you can sell the other bits to offset this, but not by much once you have added freight. Bear in mind that this unit is s/h.
Unless you desperately need the DSP in it, or a handset like a phone, a s/h 9323 with autotune is probably a better option.

Hi Bob
What are you intending to use the Radio for? If it is for travel, then from past experience I have learnt that radio's that are purpose built work better and last longer.. You would need to check the cost of having the frequencies fitted as I see that they have been removed. From the pictures it is a base station and really not suitable for your use unless you are setting up a base station with you own frequencies

This bid on this unit is now $2750.00.
If you look at the bidding list the same bidder has bid against himself 6 times increasing his own bid from $2200 to $2700 ?????? over 6 minutes.

One bid every minute, I reckon that this Ebay is a shysters market place where the price is constantly manipulated as I have seen this many times before.

At $2750 plus auto tune at about $1600 it not worth it, I have been offered a new one complete from the dealer for about the $3500 mark and I had not begun haggling at that point.

The old saying applies on Ebay - "A fool and his money" you know the rest.

John

If a bidder keeps increasing his bid but the initial bidder has already placed a bid in excess of any bid made by the repeat bidder it will appear like that. The repeat bidder doesn't know how much the original bidder's maximum bid is so increases the bid incrementally. He is not bidding against himself - he has never led the bidding. In my experience eBay runs very well and am not aware of shyster practices. I think your conclusions from your observation of the bidding above don't follow. My question remains, what is the NGT base station worth? If it retails for $5000 then $2750 is a bloody good price.

This occurs becasue you can place a maximum bid. If someone bids between the current maximum and you maximum, ebay automatically bids for you, up to your maximum. Hence he is the winning bidder 6 times.

OK seems like a strange system if the bidding is to be determined as open and fair then I would have assumed the highest bid would be available to the market and it would be pointless to mark bids lower than the current highest.

Why offer $2700 or less on the item when the current highest is $2750, seems a bit pointless.

It only jumps to 2750 because the other bidder came in with 2700. If the winning bidder has a maximum of $5000, then eBay will automatically bid for him over any bid up to that value. The bidding system is explained on the eBay site.
