Hi all, I am looking at travelling along the Anne Beadell Highway later this year. I have had a look at the trek notes but am still seeking more info/advice. At this stage the info I am seeking is the distance from Coober Pedy to the recently opened "roadhouse" along the track and whether any permits are required to travel the WA to Laverton section of the track. Any other info would be welcome.
I have a 1994 Toyota 4 Runner, 2.8L diesel engine with a 113L tank. Extra fuel requirements ??

Werner

The Hema SW Desert map is pretty much all you need - the Westprint map is out of date & adds nothing to what the Hema map gives.

The Ilkurlka (pron Ill gooka) roadhouse is 165 km west of the WA/SA border and hence about 880 km from Coober Pedy. Sells diesel & petrol 9-5 Mon - Fri weekends by appointment only. Ph (08) 9037 1147. No credit cards or EFTPOS so take cash.

If you have a GPS, stop at the 127th meridien where there is a nice little brass plaque that you would otherwse scream past. It was put there by Bill & Prue Singleton of Narrabri in 1997. If you don't have a GPS it's about 9km west of the first shed tank west of Ilkurlka

Also don't miss Bishop Riley's Pulpit, east of Yeo's Lake.

Gave a great trip.

Cheers, Paul B, Kalgoorlie

Sorry, forgot about the permits - permit required on WA side from Yamarna to Neale Junction section. Apply online at WA Department of Indigenous Affairs website http://www.dia.wa.gov.au/Land/Permits/.

G'day Werner,
It looks as if there's gonna be a few doing the Anne Beadell this year. When are you looking at going?? We are planning on leaving Coober Pedy about July 19th.
You should have no fuel problems...especially with Diesel.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. We are at this stage planning on leaving Adelaide on Sat 20th August subject to leave application confirmation. On the subject of extra fuel to be carried, when crossing the Simpson Desert, the vehicle returned a consumption of about 11.8 L/100km thus how much extra should be taken to be on the safe side to get to Ilkurka ?
We are travelling in company with a Nissan Patrol at this stage.

Werner
