I have spent the last 6 mths absorbing comments about which tyres are best and worst. As i do over 40k km per year tyresbecome a regular large expense for me, i get it wrong the bill comes around again quick.

I was set on either a set of either Goodyear Atr's, or Kuhmo's. The Kuhmos because i have had good prformance for the cost before.

I started getting prices and the salesman threw in a wild card, he offered 265/70*16 Maxxis's for $169 each fitted & balanced. I always thought MAxxis were expensive quality tyres.

Has anu one had any experience with these or should i ao\void them like the plague.

Hi Allan

Not sure about Maxxis, just remeber as they say, the only thing between you and the road are your tyres, not some thing to skimp on. That seems like a great price, hopefully they are a good tyre.

The only reason i asked was i for some reason in the back of my mind i associated them with quality. And when i got offered such a price i wondered why?

The special runs until the end of the month so i have lotsof time to consider it.

All very nice to you see who supplied the data, the main sellers of Cooper tyres.

I took it more at face value because '15 independent tyre dealers witnessed various brands of 4WD tyres being tested' and it was quoted by the Qld Mitsubishi 4X4 club.

The results are there in a public forum for tyre manufacturers to challenge or conduct another test.

Maybe someone from the subject 4x4 club could comment. Maybe there were other independent observers from it.

Pity the test was done 8 years ago.

Tyres have changed a lot since then. Even Coopers.

Alan,
My LX470 does about 40k a year too. The BFG ATs are 2 years old and still have lots of meat left. This is far and away the best run I've had. No punctures in two years.
I reckon an unknown brand might keep the rims off the road for a year, but it may be false economy if you plan on keeping the vehicle for more than a year.
I have Cooper STs on the Disco. I had no punctures at all on last year's mega trip, but they show a disturbing amount of wear.

I have been running Goodyear AT/S for 7 years now and have averaged about 75k on each set. Went to replace them on our Landcruiser and Hilux but were unable to as they are no longer available. Managed to track 1 set down for the cruiser but none for the hilux. Looked at the Maxxis but opted for the Goodyear MT/R. Bit more road noise but looked far more superiour. Don't know what milage I will get, but hopefully will be about the same as the AT/S. They are more expensive but I believe that you get what you pay for. All you have to do is weigh up your options and with what you really want to do in your vehicle than decide. It's your choice and we can only comment, not tell you which way to go. That's my opinion anyway.
Darryl.
