this sounds like fun!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just like the TV show but in your 4WD, you look for a box at a GPS location and in it will be an envelope with your name on it. There will be an instruction to do a novel 4wd activity then instructions to find your next destination. Over 3 days you will experience the Sunset Country & the Big Desert in Victoria's Nth West. This will be right up there with the greatest 4wd adventures you can have with family and friends.

You will be navigating, looking for clues, follow instructions and conducting bizarre exercises along the way. There will be all sorts of twists and surprises but unlike the TV show, nobody gets eliminated.

So long as it is reliable, virtually any 4wd will be up to this one. There should be no need for scratching or damage and even off road camper trailers can be dragged along. There are no classes or limitations and all we need is for drivers to be licensed and vehicles to be registered.

Bush camping at night in different locations so you will be packing up each morning and taking everything with you. No night activities other than social camp fires. No catering provided so BYO food, water, etc... The course layout will accommodate service stations/general stores for refuelling and supplies.

What do I need? Firstly, it is one 4wd vehicle per team although there is nothing wrong in pairing up. But all vehicles must have a GPS, UHF radio, basic recovery equipment, tough all terrain tyres such as Pro Comps and a great sense of adventure. Winches and diff locks will not be required. Greater detail will be available upon entry.

What is supplied? Other than an excellent time, all maps, notes, etc are provided for each vehicle. Prizes and trophies are awarded up to 10th place. Presentation of awards will be at a local watering hole at Murrayville where an all you can eat buffet meal will be provided inc. in your event fee.

The cost is $320 per vehicle, regardless of how many people you squeeze into it. The entry fee covers 2 adults for the buffet meal. Any extra persons over 10 years is an extra $15 each. Under 10 years of age is $7.00 per child.

It looks like fun, but the first question which comes to the mind -
if it is a "race" - your vechicle is not covered by car insurance?....

Looking forward to seeing it come to Nth Queensland as well. Need to change the name though or our vehicles wont be able to enter it as we like having our 4wd's insured. Try naming it something like "An Amazing Nav Trek". Sounds like fun hey.

David,

Sounds good.

Also, thinking about joining a 4by club. What is the Townsville one like? and what are the chances of joining it in the future? Tried to get on their website but no luck. My email is kcartwri@bigpond.net.au

Look forward to hear from you.

Darryl

Website has moved to www.geocities.com/td4wdc.

The club is a friendly bunch of people who like to get off-road and enjoy caming, and outdoor pursuits. We are not a "rock hopping super mofiied group" more a touring group with some interest in taking our vehicles through rough stuff witout risking serious damage.

I suggest you come along to a meeting and do some trips with us. CREB track is planned for June.

The Amazing Race is in name sake only. It is not a timed event more of a hard naigation event so your vehicle insurance will be be effected.

All speed limits and alcohol limits must be adhered to. Hey we have a radar detector which will pick you up from 350 metres away and a police breathyliser.

Just to note also, we have several police constables doing this event so its all above board. come one come all!!!!!!

"It is not a timed event more of a hard naigation event so your vehicle insurance will be be effected."

I gather you meant to say 'not be affected' as it's not a timed event.

So for 2 persons in a 4x4 for a three day event the cost will be between $600 and $770. The breakdown is $320 entry fee which inlcudes some paper maps and a feed at the pub, $100 per day motoring costs and $50 per day food costs for 2 people.

Good luck!

The event is on the 11-13th of June. Queen's Birthday Long Weekend.

Event is already one third full. Its looking like to be a full house.

One question to all the guys that keep stating about their food bill as expense. Food is a necessity not an expense. You have to eat or you die. So why is it that everytime an event is on or a trip on, people immediately jump to the conclusion that its plus this, plus that. Don't you guys eat, or only on events/ trips.

I need answers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I think it's a bit ritch. I was actually toying of doing somthing similar with the Bushcamping Website (which is free I might add) and I was also going to publish it on the Trips/Gatherings WA section here.

If/when I get around to completing it, I'll post it and let you know. Mine was only going to be a day trip close to Perth.

There's a link to it in my Rig Pic. It's a basic forum where people just post camping trips. It's kind of like a 4wd club in Perth as the same people tend to go on a lot of the trips, no rules just common sense, no fees, no politics it's good. If you are going somewhere and want company, just post it on the website. If you're looking for somewhere to go on a long weekend, just go have a look.
It's WA based but there is no reason other states couldn't run trips.
