Hi Undertaker
We for one will not be renewing our membership, I'm getting a little bit peeved off with the post's being deleted. We have been members for 2 years and got nothing out of the membership apart from having a rig pic on the screen. But I don't think I want to pay for everyone just to see the vehicle. Apart from that we don't get any benefit's out of it at all. You can still come on and post and read all the reply's with out being a member. Any way it will be interseting to see what others say. I have noticed a few not renewing their membership................what does that say?

I hope this is not one of those posts which gets deleted. I seem to go through phases of saying yes i will and no i won't. At the end of the day i think about all the fantastic people i have met thru this forum and all the great advice and think it is probably worth the $30 to renew. Also if you purchase from the shop the membership gets thrown in if you spend enough. Some may call me a hipocrit for my comments about posts being deleted but at the end of the day i would not have the fantastic friends i have today if not for this great forum. Membership although not essential just makes me feel good about the whole thing lol.....Just my 10 cents worth

How smart am I?????

I just sent off my renewal 3 days ago and the next day decided I'd buy a Desert Parks Pass for $90- (less about $25- I had in "member money"). I think I could've got my renewal for nicks if I'd ordered the DPP at the same time. Oh well that's one carton of XXXX that'll I'll never drink.

I agree with a lot of the above reasons for not renewing, but as much as I use other forums through yahoo etc which are free, I would never consider letting my membership lapse for these reasons unless I was going to cease using it.

This site is more than a forum, easy to forget for most of us, it's a business, that Michelle, David and crew spend a lot of time maintaining & trying to improve all the time.

In the time we have been members we have learnt alot from this site, had many laughs, and recently cried. Sometimes I think it's not fair there are other using this site for free, and getting just as much out of it without paying, but I also did that for a time.

I don't think the fee is bad for what I get out of it, I guess in the end it's a personal decision.

I hate to see this site anything less that what it is now, and would worry that if too many people decided to change to being visitors then what incentive is there for Michelle and David to make changes and improvements.

I will keep renewing as long as I'm 4wding!!

Ok I'm off the soapbox!!

Hi Sandy, i do agree with you but at the moment I am so peeved about posts being deleted. And then Michelle says if Truckster had of posted what he posted that got deleted that I wanted a copy of, it wouldnt have been deleted. Geeze, what does it matter what day of the week it gets posted. Is it going to end up like this.............only post on these day.

Monday's ...........Tyre day
Tuesday's........... Whinch day
Wednesday's........Engine day
Thursday's...........GPS day
Friday's..............Which way do I go day
Saturday's..........Gas bottle day
Sunday's...............Camper trailer day

So if it gets to this stage, there will be no funnies days at all........oh no.

Karen,

OK, I think I know where you are coming from, but you may not be aware that each post costs money to maintain, etc. and David & Michelle has requested on more than one occasion that only ONE Friday Funnies, or whatever else you call it, should be posted and everyone else then contributes to that Post. Otherwise, things get out of hand.

In the end though, it's your plonker and you can handle it any way you wish. But please....Do it with a smile:-)

I spend a lot more time on here than I ought to; I admit that. This site has provided me with many many hours of entertainment for about 60 cents a week.....roughly the same as the 8 cents a day we were told "our" ABC costs each of us.
As has been said by Brew, I too have met many new and valued friends though this site (Brew being but one of them).
I can also indirectly blame this site for my depleted bank account........I have bought various items for my 4x4 that I wouldn't have even thought necessary had it not been for the contributions and ideas of others. Things like the Thermoguard EGT, the $1,100- PWR aluminium radiator, electric cooling fan for motor, 3 stage battery charger, Yamaha generator etc etc.
I love this site and most of the people I "talk" to on here. I accept that David and Michelle have a business to run and they call the shots. I may not agree with everything they decide (like only allowing jokes on fridays) but in the end they are the ones who know their business the best. We have the right not to log on or renew our membership if we don't like the way they are running the show.
I'll be staying here as long as they allow me to do so.
Good luck with making your decision.

Yes I agree Roachie,
I thought about not renewing for the 3rd time however I wanted some maps etc so did the shop purchase and got the free renewal.

On the "Pro" side I don't have to sieve through all the post, you log on and only see new posts, follow-ups or replys since your last log on , to me that is easier and saves time.

The Friday joke thing I rarely read , however I do get a laugh out of the funnies within some of the posts themselves.

On the down side, although its nothing to do with membership is just the site speed.

Cheers

I won my membership so it's cost me nothing so far. I will renew though as a gesture of support to David and Michelle for putting this forum together. Like Brew said I've met some good people through this site ( I've met others through free sites as well) so I'm happy to show my support for the EO community by contributing my $30. The recent support to Bonz through this forum just reinforced to be what a valuable asset this place can be.

Hey mate i didn't renew for a couple of reasons one being that i didn't get my renewal notice until it expired which was the day i left to go to Murry Sunset and the fact that you don't get treated any differant than non members so i thought bugger it it's free to be a visitor so ya don't get a rig pic big woop i get one on other forum and there free i even get my own web site on one for free.

There were more reasons but hey don't want to rave on.

i will renew , I think they do a great job , + I think there entitled to run the sight any way they see fit . The friends made here a worth more than $50 to me as brew said . If you cant see value here , then your doing something wrong . The help I have recieved is enough on its own , but i have purchased products of other members that have saved me $50 ten fold . Yes you can get a free ride , as it is your porogative to do so .

I dont think anyone here will think any diffrent of you , if you go either way

Hey Eric i treasure the friends i've made on this forum but i don't think that it was being a member that did it, i think it was having something in common with others that was the case, i have made alot of friends on here who are not members just visitors, one i concider a great friend so being a visitor doesn't mean your not going to be any less of a friend.

I renewed because of what others have already covered...I have saved a lot more on here than membership costs, and met some great people, and gained a huge amount of knowledge.

I personally would like to see membership with a few more privileges...like members only being able to access the archived part of the forum, or just something else to make membership feel like better value...maybe non members don't get to see the site in colour...or they cant use every letter on their keyboard!?... Like others have said, if you don't use the shop side of the membership features, then all you feel like it gives you is a rig pic and member messaging.

Having said all that, I did happily pay my renewal, because it really is a great site thanks to everyone who contributes whether they are members or not!

What about......... what about members having editing capabilities on their posts, so when you say something dumb, and all the others write in and tell you it was dumb, you just go back and change it all, and then all the other followups would be dumb instead.......... no, hang on, that's dumb.........

Okay, what about let's say members have like Fly Buy Points, like how many years & posts you have up your sleeve, you redeem these by not having posts deleted......... no, hang on, that's not gonna work either........

Well, what about giving us god like status. Like if a member posts, and a non member wants to reply, it won't work unless the first sentence contains..."Dear Member of the brethren of the Sticker God...." How cool would that be?

Nah, dunno.......... choosing to go or leave is a bit like telling all & sundry your political or sexual views.

I like 'em all, members & non-members that is..... okay...... and other things..........

Just renewed for the third year. No real complants here.
My only concern is the lack of respect and the tone of some replies.
Oh..... and then there is our little friend who appears now and then to cause trouble.
Neither of my concerns relate to the owners of this site.

All the best

PS. Looking forward to Birdsville in July. Happy birthday to me that weekend.

As I said before, on many occasions.....Membership is an Ego thing. Sure there are some benefits but on the whole it is good to get my rig pic up there and also my personal, non commercial website.

I must have nice fat Ego.

I will be renewing again this year. Even on a pension $30 isn't an issue.

1. Discounts on books/maps/first aid etc etc
2. You can host trips and get togethers
3. Rig Pics, photo albums
4. Get your membership free just for buying some stuff for the same price you'd pay for it at the shops
5. Know you are supporting the people that put the work into this WHOLE website, not just the forum
6. $30 - WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?
7. Having the Personalized home page and being able to be informed of the new posts to the Forum, Trader and being updated on other site changes automatically.
8. Member messaging.
9. I'm sure there's other crap too.
10. Just go and do it for crying out loud.
11. I'll shut up soon.
12. Just a second.
13. Ok I'm going now, bye.
