Mick.
You dont give much information to work on . Is this a new problem or are you a new driver? Are you sure it only occures in first? Do you know what turbo lag is?
Eric.

Mick, although you mentioned 1st gear, are you talking first gear auto or first gear manual? I have noticed that when parents changed fron '98 3.0L man to '01 3.0L auto, there is lag (flat spot) in first gear in the auto that was not there in the man. Cheers, Dion.

Mick, we have a Toyota Multi valve turbo wagon, that is a real slug in first gear, UNTIL IT HITS 1800 - 2000rpm. After that it gets up and boogies. Is that your problem, or something more expensive? regards, Bob.

My 99TD does the same thing.I have found first gear is used for getting the truck rolling and thats it, once moving its time for second.

I've a 11/99 SE 3.0 TD with over 100,000 klm and it to has a flat spot around 2000rpm, in all gears till the engine warms up to normal operating temperature. (Quite a few klm,s in winter) I too use castrol softec which I discovered for myself after the Holden dealer using Mobil delvac and saying the no power and flat spots are normal till the engine gets warm. The softec has been a great improvement and I now supply it to the dealer for my car when they service it.
The car otherwise has been great, towed a campomatic trailer all around the Cape York recently without any problems(great tow vehicle). Towed a few patrols and cruisers out bogs and sand while up there and suprised many on lookers!
