Going back to work on Thursday and I have sat around the house long enough and need to stretch the 4bys tyres, The question is to go East of Kalgoorle or West. To the West is the
Yowie rocks track which goes from the
Menzies - Evanston road to
Southern Cross past old wells and
granite outcrops as
well as the Helena ranges. I have done part of this track for work and am keen to complete it at some stage. To the East is the queen victoria springs which was featured in western 4wd which is another spot i am keen to look at. Ideas/votes anyone?

Don't know the area at all but I would go west, the further away from those pesky Victorians the better ; )

Well, it all depends on how long you are away, like if it's a couple of months, east or west won't make much difference, 'cause you'll be back again.......... after going around the country in one direction.
If you go west, you won't have the sun in your eyes, but you will on the way
home.
If you go east, then you may have to wind your watch forward, and join the rest of the country and observe REAL time.
If you go west, then you may be battling head winds.
If you go east, did you know your day is actually shortened by a few seconds? Sounds like a rip off to me....
Bugger it, go North
young man!!

as you have correctly pointed out the sun rises in the east and sets in the west making north an impracticle propasition as it would be immpossible to find with no point of referance. south is doable coz you can hear the ocean. Besides my mind has been made up for me - east, it is an easier trip and my offer of a night on the pi$# 2 night will mean I wont have enough time for the slow paint strip that is the
yowie rocks track. and besides I will be closer to my beloved port power while they thump the nancy boy crows 2morrow (again)

For my vote Queen Victoria Springs area, I'm trying to get out that way myself first started in mining industry in 1985 working at Patricia Minesite on Edjudina Station, the mine is on the shores of Lake Raeside. Would love to get back there for a look see.

Really? I hadn't heard that - don't recall there being any fires around Kal over Christmas and I was here the whole time. What's the source of your info?

Have you come across the goldfields discovery tour they have set up around the Kal/
menzies area? I came across it a while back but dont remember where- could have even been in that Western 4wd issue. 1000km round trip as I recall.
Certainly better than following
drill rig tracks or
grid lines around in circles.
