Hi All
Looks like I have to rebuilt the auto box in my 91 Patrol, hasn't done 200,000km yet but is on its way out. Was told I can put an additive in it as a short term fix, may work if I want to trade it in or something. Otherwise I have been quoted $2,400 for rebuild plus labour to pull it out and refit, its a guy i know reasonably
well and he assures me he is looking after me with the price.
Does this sound like a reasonable price??

Haven't been that unlucky with the auto (2001 partol), but it is usually around $5g to get the manual gearboxes fixed on the cruisers! - Not to mention the costs of trailer hire and towing to the workshop etc. If it needs fixing - the sooner the better.

http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/extreme.asp if your in victoria without doubt.
What exactly are you gettin for your $2400?
I had mine done before I got it, $3500-4000.. Awill4x4 had a COMPLETE rebuild done at KB Autos in Berwick, $4000
Both were R&R as
well.

Truckster
In
Perth. I actually put a post on here a while ago about the box and what it was doing, post 20068 just looked it up then. Only does it when cold (the colder it is the worse it is) and the description to me was the rubbers and seals etc get too old and brittle, the tourque converter builds up pressure and it get realeased in a spurt rather than gradually as it should causing a jerk and it moving backwards quicker than it should for the amount of revs it is pulling
For $2400 they will put a kit through it but I am not sure what else (will have to ask) then extra to R&R. He did make a point of telling me that it was a special price for me and he has always looked after my old man with all his work I guess. Looking at the other prices people have paid it seems cheap. Mine has done 198,000km now what km's did u get yours done at?

It's common. We had ours done up a while ago and the cost was over 4k. The cluster gear went. We had the work done in
Canberra
