Ray,

That would have to be to "Rodney Adler" staff discount to get one at that price.

Did you steal it or, more probably are you the receiver of stolen goods?

If by some unbelievable circumstances this deal is legitimate, let me know and I'll buy another. No, I'll by 500 of them and do a little trading.

In fact I'll buy a few thousand. Flog 'em off at $400 each and I'll be retired before I hit 44.

Yeah, I reckon it was a fair buy. Half your luck.

My regulator is a Morningstar 10 amp job. Works well, very basic but does not let any drain back into the panel like the cheapie I first tried. Battery is always full so I like it.

Cheers,

Jim.

Sorry, forgot that bit, mine was $110.

Also make sure you get the thickest cable available, mine is 8mm, $2/m. And get plenty. I got 10, not enough, should have got 20, lets you find the sun better.

Moggs,

I got mine from there for $540. Far and away the cheapest I could find. Not quite $220 though.

Rod at Award was going to get an amp measuring device in that simply clamps over the leads to let you know the amps being produced for about $25. Do you know if he;s got them yet.

Cheers,

Jim.

Jimbo,

I would have thought the clampover device wouldn't work for DC amps, but I stand to be erected.

That is an excellent price Jimbo, not quite $220 but excellent anyway :)

Not sure about the clamp on amp meter. I was down there today - only thing I learn't was that they don't have any Anderson Plugs in stock. Drove around 1/2 of Melbourne looking for one to no avail - Jayco at Dandenong...Battery World at Wantirna South - nothing bloody open!

BTW, was after some longer cable for my panels (hence the visit to Award today). They sell a twin 6mm core cable at $3.50pm that they recommend for cabling the panels. Where did you get your cable from?

Bonz,

He reckoned he had one for his own use but was chasing stock of them to sell. I'll call him tomorrow. I'll let you know.

Moggs,

I got my cabling from Award, I thought it was twin core 8mm, but maybe it's 6mm. I only paid $2pm, but that was at the same time I bought the panel and regulator.

Cheers,

Jim.

Bonz, I know what you're getting at but the clamp meters work on DC these days, not quite sure on the theory. Both DSE and Jaycar sell AC/DC clamp meters...not for $25 though.

The Hall effect is about transverse voltages measured from one side of a conductor to the other and the magnetic field it produces, a DC clampon wuld be handy

Ray, Geoff,

Stop showing off.

You'll give me a simplex (I'm only a simple man, I couldn't possibly get a complex).

Cheers,

Jim.

Jim,

It must be the 6mm twin cable then as that is the largest they stock. hey reckon that is what they cable all the caravans with so it should be right for the job.

BTW, are you getting away with the family over the ANZAC ong weekend?

Jim,

I was back at Award Caravan Accessories today and they have DC clamp on amp meters and volt meters in stock now - $19.95 each.

BTW, went to Battery World at Wantirna today and saw Chris about extending my solar panel cable. He wasn't sure if the twin core 25 amp cable would do a 10 meter run ok so he spent time chopping 10 meters off a reel, loading it up with a light, connecting it to a battery and testing the voltage drop - which ended up being 1 volt over 1 meters - so he suggested I buy another cable. Got some Anderson plugs and some of the new Anderson plug rubber dust boots made by Narva from him though. He's a good bloke, once again spending considerable time to make sure what he was selling was up to the task.

Ended up getting 10 mtrs twin core 6mm 50amp cable from Award @$3.50 p/m. It has a 0.2 volt drop over the run is ok I guess.
