I have just looked at the new 2007 FJ series on the Toyota website. Does anyone know if this animal has a rigit front option. The feeling I am getting is no, because they are only offering a rear diff lock option. Also, are has anyone heard if they are offering 4 doors or turbo diesel?

new models dont come out at the start of the yr and then called the next yrs model, they usually come out in around September if they are called the next yrs model. So, Sept 2006 it would be

LMAO!!! I just looked at it, you must mean that gay blue thing thats aimed at the Rav4/Jeep owner crowd, or the wannabe cruisers of the world... LMAO!!!

God if that comes here as a SERIOUS 4WD, that will finish off them as a serious market share! Maybe a contender with the CRV/Garbage can/Chrysler Midlife Crisis PT Cruiser crowd LMAO!!!!!!!

Hi Truckster,

The US, for some reason known only to themselves, will release a new model and call it 2007 pretty well as soon as 2006 starts.

I don't know why. It's a bit like the world series where no one else shows up.

The reason no one has heard about this vehicle is that it seems it will only be for the US market. If you take a closer look I do not imagine this is in any way a replacement for the Landcruiser, but more of a marketing gimmick for Yanks that can't afford a Hummer.

If you have a look at the US Toyota site you will notice the lack of some models available here, as well as others that look nothing like ours. A quote from the US press release:

"The FJ Cruiser effectively fills a gap in the Toyota lineup which was once our core heritage - capable, affordable and durable vehicles that are youthful, fun-to-drive, aggressive and tough," said Don Esmond, senior vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. "The FJ Cruiser will deliver true off-road ruggedness, image and performance at a very low price, making it highly accessible for a large volume of young buyers."

It is actually based on a 4Runner chassis.

As it says in the acticle in Autobytel "Toys for Boys" which is what it is, this is not a serious 4WD or a 2007 Landcruiser. I searched all Toyota sites and found nothing about a new "Landcruiser".

I entirely agree. I would not touch it with a barge pole. Thankfully it looks like it won't touch our market. As an asides, Toyota actually did bring out another beast to compete with Hummer (See www.megacruiser.com), which I also would not touch. I refuse to even move from my HJ61 to an 80 series for the same reason.

My question was " Does anyone know if it comes with a rigid front axle, TD, or 4 door options?". I just want to know how serious they are.

Yeah, You're probably right. I think they are just trying to do what VW and Mini did, only badly.

Although if they are seriously catering to real 4WD at the right price and they are using a Hilux(read poor man's Landcruiser) chassis, then they might just stick to spring over.

The worst thing that ever happened to Landcruisers are IFS on the 100, thinner axles on the 80, the nasty 2 core plastic radiators these days and motors that can't take turbos. Landcruiser used to be built to a standard, not to a price. Going to get some grub now. Do some work Truckster :-)

Problem is we are no longer the main market. The market is going the GAY WAY! Yanks want something that looks masculine but is actually a wimp.

That's why I wouldn't buy a Hummer either.
