What brand is it? I have a Pioneer internal dvd player/burner, I could "lend" you a "back-up" copy of my software, it may be compatable.

By Decoder , you are talking about the software "player" for the puter ?
What windows you running ?
Windows Media Player should do it. Might just need updating.

Hi Flappa I'm running windows xp I need a de coder to run the dvd's
all the ones that are listed cost money there must be a free one out there but I just cant find one.
I think Bluey's Idea might be my best bet as I have a few mates with dvd players on there laptops.

Yeah , I run DVD's on my lappy (for the kids). I just watch it using Windows Media Player ????
I dont know what the diff would be using an external one ?
Maybe its the Drivers or Codecs that need upgrading ?

crfan it sounds like the same message I got when I ran
mine through a USB 1.1 and immediatly I got a USB PCMCIA card which provides me with two USB 2 compatible ports I was able to get it running. You don't actually say whether yours is USB or whatever.

mine worked as soon as I connected it up to the PCMCIA card with the USB 2 Ports anyway, which was what mattered to me as I reloaded the software again. Hope you find it.

I had the same concern a couple of years ago. When attempting to play a DVD I was told no decoder was installed, nothing would play it windoze media player included. After some web searching I managed to track A free one down from some dodgy site, actually they had a lot of dodgy codecs for all kinds of stuff. I can't be of much help at the moment as I'm not at
home, good luck.

If you have Limewire or Kazaa or some other file-sharing program on ur comp, you can do a Google search for, say 'DVD decoder reviews', select the one that suits you, then download a cracked version from Limewire (zip, not exe file), and youre away. Not sure of the legalities of this method, you would have to consider that, but I know it works a treat if you want a freebie.

Hi,
Why not just go to the manufacturers website and see what sort of software they have available for download.
Most DVD drives usually come with some sort of software for playing and/or recording purposes.
Cheers
