Hi all,
We are heading off soon from Sydney to Kakadu & GRR return via
Tanami, I am asking if anyone knows what weight I can safely (and
legally) carry on my roof (2002 Prado VX) including the roofrack.
Thanks for any help.

My Current model Prado has a limit of 100kg all up on roof including rack.

Not sure about 90 series but think it is same.

Cheers

Marty,

Do yourself a favour and keep the weight up there to a minimum; very tough to do on big trips like this.

Stuart,

We are aiming only to carry very limited supplies on the roof for most of the trip (2x bare tyres and 2x empty jerries), however we are intending to head up to Croker Is. (off Coburg peninsular) without our camper trailer ( leaving it secured in storage at the Border Store) and carrying more supplies for this leg of the trip only (we have no need for camping gear on the island as we are staying with relos living there).

But saying that thanx for the advice.

The roof will take 100kg info from Toyota. I have a GLX and have a ARB steel rack with the ARB rail. I would be concerned at the rating of the VX roof bars they certainly do not appear as strong as the after market. You might want to contact toyota Australia and get a rating on the rails.

You will love the top end if it's you first trip it will be special (as Bruce McAvainey would say)

I would love to eat your dust but I wont get close this year may be next.

Trevor,
Thanks for the info but my post should have said that it is a 90 series and has 16" rims. But for interest sake we are running BFG 265/75X16 AT's.
