Can anyone please tell me the towing capacity of the 1997 Nissan Patrol GQ 4.2 diesel (not turbo-charged). Secondly, do the legal towing loads differ from state to state? (I live in Queensland ).
Thankyou :-)

Pretty sure all the 4.2 diesels (both turbo and non-turbo) are rated @3500 kg braked and 750kg unbraked. Should be same in all states as it is a figure set by the manufacturer.
Hope this helps

Many thanks to all for your contributions and info :-)
I have looked at my Nissan Patrol Owners Manual and I am unable to find any stated recommended or maximum towing weight. On the subject of towing it states "Never allow the total trailer load and coupling device to be exceeded. See your Nissan for the information on this." Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place :-(
I guess I'll play safe and assume 2500 Kgs with brakes.

I have been investigating Towing capacities as
well and I rang Nissan in
Melbourne and was told that the GQ's are still 2500kg. Bugger, I need about 2700kg at least as I tow big ride on mowers, looks like I will be selling my GQ Patrol with all options except a turbo.

I rang my local Nissan dealer and was told by that the maximum towing weight for the GQ Patrol is 2000 kgs (with brakes).
I have been unable to find anything printed in my Patrol manual - this may be due to the fact that prior to the late '90's each State and Territory had it's own set of rules about towing.
I have also read that if the Manufacturer doesn't set a maximum load, then it should be 1.5 times the (unladen) weight of the towing vehicle - which in the case of the Patrol would indicate somewhere near 3000 kgs!
But mostly I have found supporting data for the lower weight of 2000 kgs.
e.g. check out -
http://cbrhorse.potts.net.au/towiing_a_float.htm
I have been looking around at some of the 22 to 24 ft boats for sale - and found that many of them weigh considerably more than 2000 kgs and yet they advertise that they can be towed by a large 4WD - so which 4WDs have these large towing capacities?
Thanks to all for your response :-)
