Hi everyone!
This time I have a question about
travelling with dogs. We have a very old 'Border Collie called Tilly and are considering taking her on our trip north to
Darwin and
Cairns. We will be travelling quickly to
Darwin and more slowly across to
Cairns and back down the east coast to
home.
How difficult is it to get into parks etc with a dog? Does anyone have experience with this travelling in these areas? We will not be going off road on this trip.
Regards Lenni

Hi Lenni,
We travelled accross from
Karratha to
Cairns October/November last year with our Alaskan Malamute and didnt really have any problems, we used the Life Be In It "Holidaying with Dogs" book to find parks, but for most of it we tried to stay in the better road side stops, and there are a number of good books out now detailing these, of coarse you cant go into any of the National Parks but the couple of time we wanted to we found a pet sitter or kennel for the day.
Remember that this part of Australia is bad for ticks so keep up the tick prevention, we were lucky and didnt find one for the 2 months we were away.
If you need more info send me an email at jancas@wn.com.au

Thankyou for the reply. Our dog is not overly active these days, therfore will cope in the car fairly
well. I would love the name of some of those publications you mentioned. We have the life be in it one but have not heard of the others.
Thanks again for your reply.
regards Lenni

Be wary of camping on station properties. Some of them may use baits.

I found an excellent publication only the other week which I use in conjunction with the "Life Be In It" one. Much larger A4 format, only about 10 mm thich 128 pages but as the title "
Bush Camping with Dogs" suggests, it gives you that alternative whereas the other book is mainly commercialized sites. $32.50 at Dymocks or have a look at www.femap.com.au/bushdogs
