Hello again

With the acquision of a new set of tyres which has given the diff/transfer case bash plate and extra 15mm, I have a question with regard to lifting the Jackaroo further (1999 TD manual)

Does winding up the torion bars and installing lift springs and shockers on the rear actually lift the transfer case bash plate (chassis basically?) If not would be a total waste of money to me. It is that bash plate that is constantly catching everything (rocks in sand, shovelling the clay further under the car etc)

Curious and hopeful

Gday D-Jack

Simply,Yes winding up the bars and putting in new raised sprigs on the back will lift the transfer case/ bash plate.

I have seen the transfer case on the jack’s it does hang low.

I have done this on my 1998 Monterey - New rear springs from Rancho with 40mm lift and 30% stronger than new genuines, and 5 turns on the torsion bar bolts - result fantastic. Last trip was through Haunted Stream Track and never a worry about a hidden rock in the crossings, then up Billy Goats Bluff track and didn't touch the newly re-inforced transfer case plate once. I still have standard size tyres, Cooper ATs which I also love. The shocks are Rancho RS5000 which handle the extra rear travel. The front shocks don't need extra length because the travel doesn't change, so if you are a little cash strapped you can just fit longer rear shocks.

Speed humps around town can now be ignored and the need to worry about rocks on the trails has been virtually eliminated.

Hidden rocks? Your trip along Haunted stream must have been a while ago, there was about few inch deep when I was there month or so ago.

We left Melbourne the Friday of the deluge which supplied us with the entire year's rainfall in one night. Some of this rain reached the Haunted Stream catchment.

There was enough depth on a few of the crossings to hide a boulder big enough to take out the sump on a standard height Jack with a full load of camping stuff. But no, the snorkel was not brought into play.

The next day the stream would have dropped by a foot. We have noted before that rivers in this area can increase or decrease substantially overnight and you would know this. By the time you got there in April it may well have been completely dry.

My point was that I didn't have to inch my way through now that it's lifted.

Hi D-Jack

Yep, wind them up mate, make sure the CV angle in not too bad and that you leave a gap in your upper bump stop for downwards travel. Have an Ironman kit on the jack, with coopers 265/75/16, now sits proud and tall

Hi Crazie

Did you mount the 265/75s on the standard Jack rims?

Aren't you worried about no insurance or does your insurer cover it?

Do the tyres rub anywhere, such as on full lock?

Is your Jack Auto or Manual, and if auto haw does it affect trail driveability?

Cheers,

Gerhard

Hi Gerhard

Yep put the coopers on the jack rims, have 6 jack alloys with coopers on them. I have a 2001 SE widetrack Jack with a fair few mods, manual and its is pretty quick now.
The Jack is fully covered by insurance, i have no issues there. There is no scrub from the tyres at all, they fit very easily and could almost fit 285/75.

goes like a rocket on the trails and has a very nice note to it

cheers
