We use the Qualcomm dual CDMA/SAT phone which gives you the chance @normal CDMA rates before you have to switch over to $3.00 per minute SAT rates.

We hired a satphone recently for our Fraser Island holiday and hired it from
here
Found them very helpful, they send the phone by airbag and include a return addressed airbag.
Great for peace of mind!
