Hi Moggo, You may need to bolt an electric winch to the front of that hilux which should give that extra oompff to mount those waskally sand dunes....

You want to know how to get more power just not using a turbo or for a lux without a turbo?
if you dont have a turbo, get one! Try bigger exhaust for start with either option.
But save your coin, and get the Turbo... Worth the wait trust me.

You can get the fuel system adjusted to supply slightly more fuel to the system, and can at times change the timing a small amount, but all these are just tinkering at the edges and not going to do much.
A turbo is really the only solution.

moggo, We had a Hilux d/cab years ago, put extractors and a 2" exhaust on it and it went okay. Lot better than standard. Maybe you could put lower speed diffs in, then it would pull better, but at highway speeds, the engine would be screaming. For the same money, and a lot less fiddling, not to mention HEAPS OF GRUNT, put on a bloody turbo, you wont be sorry!
Young bloke about 70 kms away had his 2.8 hilux turbo'd late last year, his eyes glaze over when you mention turbo's - he's rapt. Turbo vehicles aren't overly impressive on flat country, but for overtaking, or in hilly terrain, they'll blow the socks off you. Catch you later...

I own a 94 2.8 hilux and had a DTS turbo fitted 70,000km's ago. The best money I've ever spent on a car. Better fuel economy and 40% more power. Get a turbo you won't be disapointed.

I have also put extractors and 2" exhaust on my HiLux which helped the performance a bit - especially on hills, it hangs in there much better now.
I have also thought about a turbo but I don't want to compromise the reliability and longevity of the engine.
Don't waste money on a Hiclone, it doesn't work.
