Hi Deano,
We did the
Gibb River Road last year, so I can't give you current advice. My suggestion is to contact the
visitor information centre in
Derby and
check with them on the condition or contact Anne at
Drysdale River Station as she will know. Anne is a member of ExporOz, but she is very busy at this time of year with tourists.
It is fantastic country with so much to see. Try to make it up to
Mitchell Falls if you have time.
Happy travels
Anne

The most overated 4w.d. road in Aus. Most people travel this road (including myself) between June to Sept. and apart from
Mitchell falls and Kalumbaroo you could do it most of the time in a 2 w.d. drive vehicle.

Agreed Rambler. I almost didn't do the GRR in November last year after reading hooror stories in the local paper at
Kununurra about how rough it was and how ambulances from
Derby and
Kununurra were going to refuse to travel to accidents on the road. It turns out the Ambulances were only 2WD but even so nothing I saw on the GRR would bother a Holden od Falcon. Certainly a walk in the park compared to
Cape York. Cheers Rob
