Has anybody had any experience, good or otherwise, with water bladders?

We are crossing the Simpson next month & fresh water storage has become a bit of a problem, & thought maybe the long, skinny one that fits across the back floor may be the go.
Also, any clues as to the best place in Victoria to buy one, or better still .... beg, borrow, steal or hire one?
Look forward to your input!

Shaker,

We use one that I bought from ARB in the GU. Lies on the floor between the seats. Capacity is 85l and we have found it really good. Floatpac is the manufacturer. Its shaped to fit around the centre console pf the GU and there are models for other cars. I think cost was about $240 but ARB give discount for 4wd club members.

Cheers

Peter

I've seen them for less than $100 on Marine/boating Online shops in Oz. Might be worth a google search.

Me, I use a plastic caravan tank under my storage box in the back.

Greetings

I use a tank from 4wdinteriors at Cairns. Its food grade plastic and it came supplied with food grade filling hoses. Its part of the draw setup ( accessory ). More than you want I suspect.

The bladders, if made out of the correct plasti,c should work fine but you need to fill with food grade hose, otherwise the plastic taste can get in. I also have one of those long flat hoses that wind up on a reel so I can avoid the potential plastic taste contamination of water. The key to good water is the plastic type used to contain and fill it.

Regards

Paul

Mate has one across the floor in front of the back seats in his dual cab Hilux. Left Brissy 5 months ago, currently tripping in WA, 15,000km on the clock and no problems with water leakage what so ever.

Cheers,

Glenn.

I have been using the 55l one from ARB for over two years now and its great. I give it a rinse every so often with bicarb soda to clean it out.
I fill it with one of my garden hoses and I haven't had an issue with taste (probably lucky). If you get one I recommend carrying a 5l container as well, its a good backup and also makes it easy to top up on the road.
I also put a blanket or something underneath it in the middle, acts as a bit of a divider when its getting below half full so you don't get a rapid change of weight when you dont really need it - stops the sloshing as well

I have used a 60l from Opposite Lock for 3 years. You should pay between $140 and $160.
Sits on the floor behind the front seats. I have never had a problem and have used it on Canning Stock Route and Cape York.
The one I use has a stong protective outer plastic coat. I also throw a sleeping bag or towels over it and it does not matter how much rubbish lies on it. Never leaks. Water taste is OK. Never hear it "sloshing" around. The outer plastic although not rigid holds it in place and it does not move around.

Hi Shaker, nice chatting on the phone today. If you were closer you could borrow mine. I suggest those bladders on the back floor. Very convenient and carry a lot of water. Make sure you secure them in case. can get 35 ltr 55ltr and 85 ltr. Sugget 55 or 85 for longer trips.

Shaker,

We've got one, custom made by Floatpac to fit at the back of the Black Widows in between the wheel arches. We use it for drinking water and it doesn't have any tainting from the PVC. My summation of the product - Expensive, but good!

Thank you all very much for your input. I have managed to borrow a long skinny one to put between rear storage drawers & the back seat.
Thanks again!
