Looking for ideas to help store tent poles on an off road camper trailer. Currently carry the poles inside the trailer but am interested in any suggestions as to the best method to store the poles externally. Have looked at plastic pipe and metal boxes but have yet to see the solution that satisfies security, ruggedness and the ability to hold twenty to thirty poles.

Are the poles steel or aluminium? Twenty or thirty poles in one container is a hell of weight. I carry 10 in a plastic pipe (with end caps) and the weight is noticeable on top of my vehicle, an 80 Series Cruiser.

a length of 100mm pvc sewer pipe, 2 glue on end caps, 2 end sockets and 2 sealing caps, too easy . add some brackets to end caps or similar to lock and your'e done . Grab some bolted clips and hang em under the floor of the c/t.

You could always try buying a truck. That many poles you must be putting up a circus tent. Let me know the next time you're in town ..... love a good circus.

I personally reccomend the plastic tube method above ..... worked well for us for over 4 yrs now, mind you we only carry 9 additional poles.

Good luck.

Never known anyone who would steel tent poles. What price do they fetch on the black market?

might also be an idea to tie some cord/cable to the end cap and pipe save forgetting it along the rack somewhere?

Mate I've got on off-road CT as well and have been doing my head in with the same problem. I was going to originaly make a box and fit it under the camper but I've got extra large chassis rails, so that stopped that idea as the box would have been to close to the ground.( Idea 2) was to make a box on the dirvers side of the camper above the wheel arch that sealed up under the access hatch of the trailer.
(Idea 3) Fit a PVC pipe across the front of the trailer on the boat rack as this would give me access from both sides (drivers, passenger) as well as enough height off the groung to hopefully not have to worry about smashing it with stones
