I was just after your thoughts on a car I am thinking of buying , Its a 2000 Landcruiser GXL 100 series , Auto , Diesle with aftermarket Turbo and Inter-cooler , Twin air lockers , Kaymar rearbar , Snorkle , Dual Bettery system , ARB Sahara bar with with a Warn lowmount and lights , OME LTR Shockers.

The only thing is the car has done 104,000 kms and the motor is blown but a well known 4x4 mechanic is rebuilding the engine , it will have new injectors , pump etc.

I know the person who has offerd me the car and he brought it new in 2000 and has only been bush three times with it , the rest of the time is spent on the hard black stuff.

The asking price is $30,000 with all the work done and finished.

What do you think? Would it be worth while buying the car or not?

Gday mate,

What is the reason for the motor rebuild. Seems strange it is running twin lockers, and has winch and has only been offroad 3 times. Was and is turbo ok? Was it running big boost for motor to blow? What's the undercarriage like? If it all adds up, and you trust the guy, it's a good price.

Cheers

Chris.

The reason for the engine re-build is when the mechanic put the turbo on the did not addjust the fuel correctly and it was running a bit to lean , then the motor went night-night as a result of under feeding it. It has all the gear becuase he was going to do a bit of off road work but he couldnt get away because of his work , it pretty stopped him from getting away.

Just to clarify , a turbo diesel engine will run cooler when lean , the opposite to a petrol. More than likley engine was being overfuelled rather than run lean.
cheers sevo

Robsil . I am not sure about everyones opinion here. I work as wholesaler in melbourne , and I personaly wouldnt pay that kind of money for it . The car is worth , 30 k or so fixed , not with a possible 5 to 8 k engine rebuild. A lean engine blow up , is not to be taken lightly , almost as bad a s running low on oil . If the mechanic is telling you that it si a 2 or 3 k fix , he is yanking your chain .

Now to all those who were so quick to say ill take it , Please forward me your numbers so I can send you the next blown up diesel i see lol

Taking the P*ss . so dont you all get your nickers in a knot now
