There was a question posted earlier in the week about getting more from an 80 series turbo. Does anyone know what the actual pressure that the 80 factory turbo runs at and if antone has increased the output? Mine is the 91 model.

cheers

Charlie, from memory mine was running about 9psi, not sure if this was in spec or not. I fitted a '91 1HD-T engine into my 75 series ute after the V8 diesel blew up. I ran a 2.5 inch exhaust with straight threw mufflet and it had heaps of grunt for towing and 4x4ing. More go than the V8. It would pull up any sandhill from 1500rpm in high second and just keep building power. And to top it off, it would return 24 mpg on road and never went below 20mpg (7 km/litre) in hard off road conditions, a fantastic donk that I wish I had in my Nissan!!
Cheers.

Cheers Desert,

The 1HD-T certainly pulls like a freight train. I havn't been dune driving yet but have takean it up past north shore Noosa with a 10 foot rubber duck on the back with 12" high wheels on the trailer.

Got through OK but a bit more grunt would be greAT. gOOD 4X4ING

You could increase pressure pretty easily, just has to do with the wastegate(just a relief valve set at certain pressure) but with greater boost = greater under bonnet Tempretures, so you will proberly need a intercooler. As around don't know how much under hood temp, 80's can handle might get away with out intercooler, but proberly wouldn't risk it.

G'day Charlie

Does your 80s smoke a little (bluish/grey) at cold running? How many Ks on your clock?

Cheers
